a discovery playlist featuring weekly top 10 music releases

  1. Chappell Roan- The Giver: I’m obsessed with Chappell’s country twang era… something about it just feels right. This has been stuck in my head all week.

  2. Lucy Dacus- Talk: I seriously can’t wait for this album to come out… every single release is insane. The guitar in this goes crazy, it's just so beautiful.

  3. ggwendolyn- mango sticky rice: This song sounds exactly like its title—sweet, warm, and a little nostalgic. It gives late summer nights, the last bite of dessert, and a love that lingers just a little too long.

things that i’ve been super into lately that i need to share with you guys

  2. I’m not sure if anyone else relates but the beginning of spring always feels to me so nostalgic to the last time I was a teenager… so I made a playlist about it.

movies, tv shows, and actors on my radar right now

What does life look like for you right now?

I’ve been living in plaster dust purgatory

Ins and outs for this month? 👑📅🫶

Ins: Shakshuka (was never really out), lighting candles at all times of the day, hot yoga (I’ve been literally once but I’m hoping by saying this I am speaking it into existence), decaf, learning covers, phone calls, walking 25 minutes to go to the extra cute green grocer that sells the big garlic.

Outs: opening Tiktok or Instagram, forgetting to water my plants, deciding not to buy the cute trinket in the charity shop and then thinking about it forevermore, getting my news from social media, listening to my own unreleased music until I hate it.

What’s your favorite hobby right now? What’s a hobby you want to get into this year? 🛹🧘‍♀️📷

I am currently renovating my flat in Glasgow, so it’s not as though I have much choice but I think a hobby I ought to take up is DIY. My goal is to put up a shelf. And to learn how to hang a photo frame. I even bought a boiler suit. I hope that this will open the floodgates to a new, handier KGM.

My realistic primary pass time currently though is jazzing up some instant ramen and watching Severance edits on Tiktok. So, balance.

Piece of media that’s influenced you 🎼🖼️🎬

First one that came to mind is the film Once. I used to watch and rewatch it when I was younger. The combination of the lo-fi film medium, the incredible folk music, the beautiful storyline. It was one of those ‘a-ha’ moments where you watch it and realise that that is what you want to do. That’s the feeling you want to reach with your work.

Any interesting/silly/fun recent tour anecdotes? 🎆🤪🙈

Recently someone got the lyrics to an unreleased song of mine called ‘Chicago’ tattooed after seeing it performed in Edinburgh last year. Whenever that person is at a gig we share a nice moment when I sing that song. Also I spilled a whole margarita on stage last week all over my pedals after talking for a good while about how happy I was to have my margarita.

Describe your recent work by a color/season/mood/something interesting 🍂🌨️🌼

My latest single is maybe maroon.  My next project is sage green.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? 🦸‍♀️⚡️🕸️

Oh teleportation without a doubt. I spend probably so much of my life in transit. On a good day it’s sitting on cross-country trains from London to Inverness. On a bad day it’s being de-boarded at some station in the middle of England because there’s a fault in the line, or hour-long passport control queues in Luton airport. Also, I don’t get to see my gran enough. The ability to zip and zap back to Inverness would be great.

Is there an artist you’ve seen live that blew you away? 🪕🎫🎤

CMAT live at the Barrowlands in 2023 was one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen. Most recently, though, I had the pleasure of supporting my favourite boys (Flyte). Their show - which was in Mackintosh Church, Glasgow - melted me, as they always do.

What are you listening to right now? 🎧📻💿

The other day I shed a tear on an 8am flight listening to the Deluxe Role Model album. Another new discovery for me is an album called Wilson Williams by Withered Hand and Kathryn Williams, which I’ve been loving. Also diving back into the older Father John Misty stuff; a phase I have at least once a year. I have also - as always - been listening to XO by Elliott Smith on repeat. Some special mentions for the recent rotation though: Joni, Doechii, Joan Baez, CMAT.

What fashion pieces have you been into lately? 👗🎀🧢

You’re asking the wrong person, I’m sorry. I suppose I’m big into stripes right now though. Does that count? I’ve also been shopping in places that make me feel like a MILF (for the UK people, I’m talking M&S and John Lewis). I think it’s because I’m watching a TV show with Jennifer Anniston in it. So I’m big into anything I think Jennifer Anniston might wear right now. Also my big wool coat. Everything must be accompanied by my big wool coat (I live in Scotland).

Any hidden talents? 💃🏓🧗‍♀️

Squash I suppose. Not much of a party trick but I used to play for Scotland.

What song/lyric are you most proud of? 📓🪞💌

It changes every day, I think. Often it’s the song written most recently. There are a few songs that I’m recording at the minute for my debut album that are probably my favourite I’ve written lyrically. However, it would be wrong for me to not mention my most recent single, which in a pretty bare and direct way talks about a conflicting time in my life. I’m proud that I released it. Although it’s scary to have that kind of story live out there in the world, and have no control over how it may be perceived, I think it’s a necessary part of who I am and therefore a necessary artistic step. One line from that song that packs a punch is ‘you had me before I was even mine’.

A line I like at the moment from the (unreleased, only partially recorded) album: ‘Thought it would fade like smoke in the wind, but it just changes shape and blows back again’. I wrote that after exhaling from a cigarette and watching the smoke contort and come back to me, but it came in handy for a song not about smoking cigarettes.

What’s a lyric you think about often?📃🏹💭

At the moment, it’s: ‘Speaking strictly for me we both could have died then and there’

What’s your dream collab?🫂🔮🫧

I find this question hard because I know that being in a room with people I admire this much would probably not be conducive to good work on my part. I’ll give a few though; Bridget St. John, CMAT, Father John Misty, Kate Bush, The Magnetic Fields, Paul Simon, Christian Lee Hutson.

Maybe we can all hop on a track together.

Top 4 favorite films?🎞️⭐️🎥

Oh don’t do this to me. I’ve always thought that if Letterboxd asked me this I’d run. So many I could name but I’m going to keep it real. Today, and this may change, let’s go with:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, School of Rock, Little Miss Sunshine, Bridesmaids (honourable mention to Worst Person in the World and The Florida Project)
