Dear Besties 💌 Festival Mania + New Music This Week

a discovery playlist featuring my recent top 10 new music releases

  1. Maggie Rogers - Don’t Forget Me [album]: wow… anything maggie makes is an instant classic. her music is so bittersweet, all about moments and growth and healing. i’m loving the sound of this one— the little twang pairs so nicely with her voice.

  2. Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso: Sabrina is just THAT girl. the popstar we’ve been waiting for. this one has been on repeat and is on all my pop playlists right now.

  3. Girl In Red - I’m Doing It Again Baby! [album]: this album is just FUN. it make me dance around in my room and laugh and had me reentering my girl in red phase… i honestly don’t feel like there’s any skips here.

BOTW: BOYISH

Boyish was formed by India Shore and Claire Altendahl in 2016 at Berklee College of Music. The duo have accumulated over 30 million streams across their catalogue and have received praise from various publications including Billboard, Paper, Office Magazine and Pigeons and Planes. In August of 2022, they released an acoustic version of their track “Smithereens” with indie powerhouse Rachel Chinouriri. They went on to play as direct support for Rachel’s UK headline tour in May 2023.

What does life look like for you right now?

Fashion pieces you’re interested in lately? 👜👡🧥

80’s Prom dresses from Ebay, anything with shoulder pads

Piece of media that’s influenced you 🎼🖼️🎬

We are both really into Twin Peaks at the moment. Just saw “Love Lies Bleeding”, and “Poor Things” and that has changed everything.

Any interesting/silly/fun festival anecdotes? 🎆🤪🙈

On our most recent tour supporting The Beaches we pulled up to the venue in Boston that happened to be next to a couple other theaters and our tour manager accidentally went into the theater for The Blue Man Group and told them we were opening and tried loading in.

What are you listening to right now? 🎧📻💿

Black Country New Road, Chappell Roan, Jackie Hayes, Mk.gee, Troye Sivan, Mannequin Pussy, Kate Bush, My Bloody Valentine

Describe your recent work by a color/season/mood 🍂🌨️🌼

Claire: Mossy, late fall, mood is peculiar

India: velvet, when it’s cold out but the sun is really bright, strobes, big angel wings

Is there an artist you’ve seen live that blew you away?🪕🎫🎤

We have seen Mk.gee twice in LA now, the first time was at the Moroccan Lounge and they played the whole set with the lights completely off and they used headlamps to see what they were doing. They played the set completely through with no breaks and we had never seen anything like it before.

What song/lyric are you most proud of? 📓🪞💌

Claire: In “Kill Your Pain”, the lyric “wanted to be something with wings”! I feel like I really unlocked something for me, and helped me to start making the world we’re trying to make right now

India: I feel like right now the song I’m most proud of is unreleased, for now it’s called “Big New Boyish”, and it’s kind of everything I’ve ever wanted to make

What’s on you Letterboxd? (Top 4 favorite films) 🎞️⭐️🎥

India: Moonstruck, Shape of Water, Twilight, Apollo 13

Claire: Pride and Prejudice, School of Rock, Twilight, Spirited Away

What’s a lyric you think about often? 📖🏹💬

Claire: “we are ugly but we have the music” Leonard Cohen- Chelsea Hotel #2

India: “and you like Concorde, I came a gentle hill racer, I was breathless upon every mountain, just to look for your light” - Concorde by Black Country New Road, but really every single lyric from this song

What’s your dream collab? ☁️🔮🫧

We would love to collab with Ethel Cain, Adrianne  Lenker, Noel Gallagher, and Dave Grohl
