Special Update: It’s Carly’s last time writing the newsletter, and we couldn’t let it pass without saying thank you to her. She’s been such a special part of the Besties community - thoughtful, creative, and always looking out for you all.
This may be the end of this chapter, but it’s definitely not the end of ATG x Carly B 💗
Top 3 songs you’re obsessed with right now + why
Chloe Southern- Blueprints: I instantly fell in love with this song upon first listen. I think the lyrics are genius (“I still think of you when I’m dressing / nothing feels mine / you do all of the deciding, still”) and the buildup is just phenomenal.
Bayli- Lucky Number One: I discovered this song when Bayli opened for the BENEE show I was at and was SO into it. “A little bit of femme, a little bit of dyke” I mean come onnnn
Dove Ellis- Feathers, Cash: I think this song is just so beautiful. The voice makes me feel both heartbroken and comforted– something that I feel makes the perfect song.
Favorite artist interview you’ve ever done (and what made it special)
My very first interview was for ATG and it was with The Japanese House at Red Rocks.
TJH is one of my favorite artists of all time and holds such a special place in my heart, so it was so meaningful to be able to interview her and learn more about her artistry. The venue was also just otherworldly, probably one of the most gorgeous interviews I’ll ever do.
I also really loved my interview with Finneas, which was one of the firsts I did for my own page!
A lyric that’s been living in your head lately
“Cause love's such an old-fashioned word / And love dares you to care for the people on the (People on streets) edge of the night / And love (People on streets) dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves” - Under Pressure by Queen.
I just think that’s beautiful. Love is the most important thing that we have.
Your 3 favorite artist performances you’ve seen at All Things Go (any year)
Doechii- as I’m sure you know, I’m more of a sad folky music lover, but this Doechii performance changed me for good.
MUNA- every and all times they’ve played ATG. The energy they bring to the stage is incredible.
Clairo- someone I had been wanting to see live for AGES and was so excited to finally be able to see! She is so ethereal, I was just in awe.
Best concert you’ve ever been to
I saw Phoebe Bridgers perform at Red Rocks on her Punisher tour and it was genuinely the best moment of my life. She played Waiting Room for the first time in years. I cried.
Your most viral TikTok (and the story behind it if there is one)
I believe it’s this one about my cherry/wine playlist! I was so surprised it took off because cherry/wine is one of my oldest playlists (started in like 2015) and I was so surprised it still spoke to people years and years later. I posted it and went on a hike with my family and when I came back I was shocked to see the response!
Your favorite playlist you’ve ever made - or one you keep coming back to
I think my Cool Girl list is definitely a favorite. It’s one I love to edit and add to, because it’s always evolving with the music I think is the coolest (and by coolest I really just mean most interesting). It also helped me create a bit of a Cool Girl rebrand which was fun to dive into, as well as inspired some later playlists.
And with that, I’m signing off! Thank you guys so much for tuning into Dear Besties, I’ve had the best time. If you want to stay in touch, here are some of my socials.
My tiktok, where I am most active and share playlists, new music, etc!
My personal insta (but beware I really love to post)
My youtube, where I share my artist interviews for my Passing the Aux series!
My new substack, where I will be sharing weekly thoughts on music, pop culture, and fashion!
My spotify, of course.
